At Karen’s Alterations, Karen knows that off-the-rack is not necessarily ready-to-wear. Clothing is beyond what you wear; it’s part of the memories you make.
Karen is a local, independent, business owner who started sewing at age 5 — when she was old enough to pick up a needle — making her own doll clothes and Halloween costumes throughout her youth. She honed her skills in the campus costume shop learning many valuable techniques in both construction and alterations on a variety of styles and fabrics. Helping a friend with alterations for a wedding dress years ago has evolved into her business today.
Karen believes that a bride should feel beautiful in her dress but also needs to be comfortable wearing it all day to enjoy eating, dancing and celebrating. Karen will help you and your wedding party look your best for the big day. Bridesmaids, mothers-of-the-bride and groom, and even the flower girl, deserve to feel like courtiers to a princess!
And enjoying your wedding dress doesn’t have to end after just one day. Your dress can be re-fashioned into a christening dress, first communion dress, cocktail dress, or even a throw pillow. Karen’s Alterations can even create flannel shirt pillows, onesie sleeper bears, t-shirt quilts, and tooth fairy pillows out of other clothing “memories” in your closet.
Other services offered include specialty Halloween costumes, comic con/cosplay or reenactment pieces, pant and skirt hemming, scout and military uniform patches, zippers, and basic clothing repairs.
Your initial consultation is free and evenings or weekends are available by appointment.
